Speedfigs for #Wolves 6th Jan + Blog
It was frustrating to see Lowther get beat yesterday by a ‘job horse’ who had finished nearer last than first on his last 5 runs at odds of between 20/1 and 50/1! Nothing you can do when that happens, unfortunately.
It’s pretty low key stuff from Wolves today but there is one 100+ runner called Strong Man (nap) from Mick Easterby’s yard. The trainer hasn’t had a winner yet this year but has gone close over the past week with three 2nd places from five runs. Strong Man is sired by Gentleman’s Deal who was a very smart horse on the AW, an absolute beast in fact, with 8 wins from 9 runs (2nd on the other occasion) which included two listed races and G3 Winter Derby.

Considering his pedigree, it’s suprising that they haven’t ventured onto the polytrack more often, especially so when you consider that Strong Man has won twice and placed twice on only 5 visits to Wolverhampton.

His latest win came over 7f off a mark of 63 and he has only gone up 3lb for that victory, so it’s fair to assume that there is more juice left in the tank off his current mark. The family have all improved significantly with age. I’m hoping that Gibbons uses the same tactics as last time where they made all, as there isn’t a lot of pace in this race and if they make the running there is every chance they could get loose up top over today’s shorter trip.
Finally, I was surprised to see the price of around 8/1 this morning and that is surely huge considering Gentlemans Deal’s record at the course and his current form. He is also Mick Easterby’s sole representative at track so he’ll be there to win. Strong e/w bet suggested.
